Sarah Walter serves as associate vice president for federal relations. Prior to joining MSU, Walter was director of federal relations for research at the University of Michigan and associate director of Vanderbilt University’s D.C. office. Previously, Walter served as senior legislative assistant to a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Connecticut delegation. Walter represents the university before Congress and the Executive Branch. Her role also involves working in collaborative initiatives on higher education federal issues with other leading universities and policy stakeholders. At MSU, she serves as one of a few point people on support for the Department of Energy-MSU Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) and key appropriations, research policy and foreign students and scholars federal issues. Walter has a masters of arts in international relations from the University of Chicago and a bachelor of arts in history from Cornell University.
